On Max Payne 1, the main character is modelled after Sam Lake. He is the one who wrote the story of the game, and he is the creative director of Remedy Entertainment, the company that created Max Payne. His real name is Sami Järvi.

For Max Payne 2, they used the actor Timothy Gibbs. With a bigger budget available, they could hire real actors this time, that’s why we don’t see Sam Lake continuing the tradition.
In both instalments of the game, the voice is the actor James McCaffrey who also modelled Max Payne 3.
