Phasmophobia tips and tricks for beginners

Posted on May 4, 2024May 11, 2024 by Xanthi S

Phasmophobia, the famous ghost-hunting video game released in 2020, is still popular among content creators, so here is a guide to help you find those ghosts.

There’s no need for lengthy intros, let’s get right to it.

Grab your thermometer

It might seem obvious, but get a flashlight and a thermometer. Thermometers are good for helping you identify which house part is haunted. Hint: it’s the one with the freezing temperature.

The unexpected advantage of the traditional thermometer

The classic thermometer is not as effective as it shows the current temperature with a delay. An electronic one is accurate and fast in showing the room temperature.

However, worry not if you have a lower budget and a camera but no money to invest in an electronic thermometer.

Place the traditional thermometer next to the video camera, in such a position so that you can see it from the van’s monitor.

When a ghost appears, you can see the freezing temperature from a distance and put it on the journal as evidence. Boom!

Speaking of… here are some must-haves from the shop

This should be tip n1 cause if you don’t have a thermometer or a flashlight, you should get one. The default flashlight is not good at all, so as soon as you have some money, invest in your equipment.

Other good-to-have items include a camera and an EMF reader. Myfavourite is the D.O.T.S. Projector but other items like the writing book, or a video camera are must-haves.

Locate the fuse box

I hate this part cause it means I need to go to the cellar or the garage, often by myself, to locate it, unless a co-player tags along.

Locating the fuse box is very important. At some point during the game, the ghost will turn off the lights and you will need to go to the fuse box to restore it.

Locate it in advance to avoid running around and panicking in the darkness.

Take advantage of the SETUP phase

The setup phase is the time when no ghost appears.

This is my favourite part of the game. Think of it as a grace time, where you can set up your equipment and explore before the ghost appears.

The time depends on the difficulty level you play.

The Amateur level has a 5-minute setup time.

The Intermediate level has a 2-minute setup time.

The Nightmare level has none.

If you are unsure, you will have a countdown timer inside the van, so that you can check exactly how much time you have left.

Invest in video cameras

If you have more than one, you can place them strategically and watch them from the safety of the van. You don’t have to be in the house that much. I call this a WIN-WIN situation. What we usually do, when we play at the XGN headquarters (which has been a while) is we put a D.O.T.S projector in front of the camera and head back to the van to see the progress.

Place a Ghost Writing Book in the middle of the haunted room

When you know which room is the haunted room, some types of ghosts will write on the Journal if you place it on the floor or on the bed. Do it and then run. Bonus if you have a video camera that is pointed towards the book so you can spot that one from the van.

Collect photo evidence

Taking pictures will increase your chances of earning money even if you don’t get the correct ghost type. Try to spot the bone evidence, which you can try and spot during the setup stage.

Don’t forget the salt

I actually do, so luckily we have Nemiqt in our group to remind us of these things, but salt is important as it can show footprints and you can take pictures of it. It can also be used to exclude certain types of ghosts as some, like the Wraith, will not step on it.

There are so many more things to pay attention to and to be honest, this game is more of a strategy than a horror game. Do you agree?

I want to take this opportunity to give a huge shout-out to the queen of Phasmophobia. She is an expert in this game, like no, you have no idea, she is REALLY an expert.

This is her linktree, follow her!
